Curb Appeal
“You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.”
As we observe the growth and development of our islands, let’s preserve our natural beauty, in the face of a changing landscape. After all, we live in an environment that floods our senses from sunrise to sunset, from rain shower to blue sky, from the lively Atlantic tides to the quiet grace of the Lagoon. Let’s encourage our visitors to join us in grateful response to this daily feast.
Curb appeal is an important start! An attractive entryway creates the atmosphere that awaits: a fine dining experience, a quaint village home, a gated resort, or a yoga retreat… your curb has the power to soothe or stimulate, and to spur curiosity to what lies within. The quality of the curb speaks of the quality of your product, and is worth some planning.
Signage – Shiny, happy numbers, logos or names are key to your appeal. Your visitors should never have difficulty finding you.
Pots – these are your statement pieces, so Go big! You can always change out your plants, but choose pots that will say who you are, be with you and fit into your landscape for years to come, even as they age.
Palms – another worthy investment that withstands all the seasons. Nothing offers a warmer welcome to the Caribbean than healthy mature palms!
Water – anything from a small fountain to a pond guarantees refreshment and sets the tone for a soothing experience
Trellises – Encourage your visitors to leave everything behind when they cross your threshold. A trellis helps create a cosy, shady and mysterious beginning to whatever happens next…
Walkways – pavers, stones, green or floral borders, all serve to soften the rough edges, and sweeten the exchanges along the way
Lighting – also worth the forethought, lighting is a science of its own, and easily sets the desired pace. Plan your curb lighting as early as during the construction phase, to avoid the inconvenience and cost later.
Signage – Bright, happy numbers, logos or names are key to your appeal. Your visitors should never have difficulty finding you.
Shade trees – do the world a good by creating some shelter from the heat and rain, even for passers-by.
Rock gardens – perhaps the easiest to maintain, rock gardens offer a clean, crisp green space. Once the main big rocks have been placed, clean up is easy, plants can be changed out periodically, wood chip can be topped up and weeds will be suppressed. Much effect for very little!
Take the time to ensure your curb features are clean and well-kept; this reflects your proud presence in your business or home and your welcoming Caribbean spirit!
